Deadwood is in my opinion up in the top 6 of best shows ever made (the others being Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Firefly, Six Feet Under and West Wing - excluding some danish shows you've probably never heard of... ;-) ) The thing about the dialogue in Deadwood is that it is meant to be Shakespearean prose, where the cursing is used to get the rhythm to fit. They dialed it down a notch in season 2 and 3, but it is really obvious especially in the early half of season one. I'm not personally am expert on Shakespeare, but people more clever than me tell me it's is uncanny how they weave the sentences together, and how points are made by some seemingly unrelated character 10 minutes later. I dont know what drugs Simon was on when he wrote the stuff, but is is so f'ing clever that it flies over the head of most who are not versed in that kind of insanity. I cannot recommend it enough.
