I was hired as a cop about a year after the Rodney King incident in Los Angeles. In my interview with the fire and police commission, I was asked what I would have done during that incident if present. See, when it comes to these hypothetical situation interviews, one is often asked what he or she would have done without the basis of experience, training or knowledge and often has to sort of wing it. I told the small panel that I hoped I would have intervened. I mention this because from time to time I wonder what I would have done during historical social events in the US. Women's suffrage, the Red Scare, the Civil Rights movement, the Vietnam War and so on. I bring this up because right now we see a political party that has lost all of its morality in its failure to chastise this man in the Whitehouse some dare to call an American president. This man has been an equal opportunity attacker on all things different than he and on it goes. His enablers are behaving in such a way as that of all those that have stood on the wrong, opposing side of the social issues I just mentioned. Hopefully, history will not be kind to these people. One last addition, fortunately, over the years I have learned personal integrity and morality are pretty ridged in their base formation, so my question of my what my own involvement would have been during those issues allows me to sleep well at night because I have learned I would have been on the right side of those issues.
