Great reminiscences, heathcliff. As always, there's so much wisdom in your writing. You could be speaking
for my late parents, you'd of liked them, and they you!Our partisan differences were dramatically heightened when the desperately needed civil rights legislation of
the 60s was passed. Southern Democrats saw a challenge to their privileged place in the economic/racial/
political hierarchy so they fled to the GOP. Nixon's Southern Strategy solidified the change. Also, regarding
hyper-partisanship, I remember my dad pointing to Newt Gingrich's Contract For America as an inflection
point. Limbaugh, Fox News, Breitbart, etc. have perfected the fear/outrage manipulation on their viewers and
