My favorite one is The Blue Brothers. Not only is it very funny, it also shows a couple hundred police cars getting smashed up. And the music is some fine stuff.
Another good one, also on the bluesy side, is The Commitments. The trials and tribulations of a band trying to find a break.
Then there's Eddie and the Cruisers. I don't remember a whole lot about it, but the soundtrack was pretty cool with it's Springsteen-wannabe songs.
If we go to straight musicals, I'd rank them this way:
1. Fiddler on the Roof (the only non-Beatles disc that old that is still in my regular rotation)
2. Chicago (saw this on broadway before it went on film. amazing)
3. Jesus Christ Superstar (I prefer the original cast recording to the film's soundtrack)
4. Paint Your Wagon - (worth it just to see Clint Eastwood sing)
