The last couple Republican presidents were not at all conservatives so I probably would not refer to most people that vote Republican now as conservatives. This philosophy has been abandoned by the party and most of the elected fiscal conservatives all ran away once Trump arrived. Paul Ryan took off nearly immediately and he was, at least always claimed, he wanted to be a balanced budget, lower the deficit guy. Trump was the opposite of this and wanted to bury the country in debt as that was how he operated in his own life. So, not hard to see why "conservatives" ran for cover when Trump came in.

Now the Republican party is represented by just a bunch of horrid jokes and Trump really killed them. I mean if you hate Republicans Trump is your guy. Now the primary qualifications to get elected to office as a Republican are you need to be a completely two faced liar that will say absolutely anything as long as it supports whatever you think currently benefits you (Lindsey Graham, Ron Johnson, Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz), or a person that will promote total fictions that are obviously the opposite of reality (Jordan, Gaetz, Brooks, Gohmert, this list is ridiculously long) to keep your supporters as misinformed and crazy as possible, or just a total conspiracy spewing lunatic that probably should be in a mental ward not in congress (Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert). I mean the are no "conservative values" on display with these people it is all barking mad nutters and people attempting to stuff their pockets with cash. That's Trump's gift to the party and I don't know how you steer that ship back to shore.

McConnell wants to get the donor class back on board, that's his big concern, as they have turned their back it seems on Trumpism. However, McConnell is no hero, he believes in government stagnation and only serving the donor class while the rest of the country suffers horribly.

So, where are you going to find a "conservative", E, in this mess? Truth is I know some sane Republicans but they are horrified at the elected scum that call themselves Republican now. Trump has, in their eyes, destroyed the party and the options are very, very limited and they do not see people in the party right now capable of lifting it out of mire. They see a split with people wanting to bring back conservatism going to form a party of their own and leaving the liars and loons that want to embrace racists and QAnon clowns to their own devices. I think the thing that prohibits them from moving forward is the hit they will take doing that. They will probably win the donor class, which at least is what they feel wins them elections, but they fear the idea that 75 million people voted for Trump's insanity...so will they lose their seats to the new wave of Marjorie Green/Lauren Boebert wackos?

It's a strange place to be and Trump has proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that you can tell Republican voters lie after lie after lie...even with all the proof in the world right in front of you that he is lying...and they will continue to vote for you. A lot of these horrible elected Republicans have taken notice of this and they really like it. This is why there is a split in the party and most of the House Republicans are firmly in the Trump/lie your ass off camp.

On the Senate side the claim is most of them want to break from Trumpism but are afraid to do so because everybody that breaks from Trump is immediately inundated with death threats directed at them and their families. So, you go from leading a normal life to suddenly needing a 24/7/365 security detail protecting you and your family. Everybody that goes against Trump is advised to go get a bullet proof vest immediately. So, these people think "Maybe if I just stay quiet until he is out of office this will all go away."

I'd love to hear Marc answer this question and perhaps he will get around to it:

Do you think Joe Biden won the election fair and square or do you believe Trump won by a landslide and the election was stolen from him?
