Your summary is accurate.  I keep thinking the law will catch up to Trump and he'll fade into the woodwork.

 But yesterday when McConnell got assurances that Dems would not remove the filibuster, I was extremely disappointed.  Trump's Supreme Court will now likely be a deciding factor in cases Trump's lawyers bring before them.  Trump will remain out of jail, I'm afraid.

Keeping  the filibuster would leave the opportunity to change the make up of the court.

There is one other glimpse of salvation.  If Biden can get a truly job-generating long-needed repair of our infrastructure going, many of Trump's followers getting good paying, long duration jobs might turn back to Democrats.

The militias, however, are feeling the power.  It may trump rational response to an improving economy.
