Icon The racial component...

Basically, yes, we are talking about the same idea but I just don't think that capitol police were overlooking the Trump terrorists just because they were white. I do think there was plenty of data and internet chatter leading up to the terrorist attack on the capitol that law enforcement entities were well aware of. I mean it was all over the internet and they had been monitoring these groups for some time.

I do think there is, as you say, a difference in how law enforcement reacts to different protesters but I think the reason for this is elected Republicans and Right wing media push as hard as they can to promote the idea that people of color are dangerous. So, Black Lives Matter to them is treated as a giant threat and they scream their heads off about it. However, Democrats and normal media outlets don't go crazy screaming about Right wing terrorists (until they attacked the capitol) and so there is not as much of a harsh reaction to them or their activities. This is despite the fact that Christian Right Wing terrorists are identified as our greatest concern by law enforcement.

Antifa is an anti-fascist movement that is not a movement of people of color, it is strictly about being against fascism which has nothing to do with color and incudes people of all races. Funny thing is you would think every American would be against fascism but truth is we are not. Many Americans embrace it, and yes the ones that do tend to mostly be white, Christian, and armed to the teeth.

Let's face it the primary reason this has all grown in leaps and bounds since Trump got elected is the Republican party simply decided it no longer has any need to appeal to anybody but white people or lunatic pro-fascists. Why? Because they just determined racists and fascists are their base and it worked for Trump to attempt to appeal only to them...so if it works, stick with it.

The thing to me though is I don't really want to look at it as a racial thing because in the end, I don't think that is how we are divided at this point. Yes, unfortunately the truth for Republicans is racists are part of their voting base. They embraced that and really it is because they need every vote they can get. I am sure a lot of Republicans would like to denounce these people but Trump fully embraced them, he still is the most popular and well known Republican in the country so they are embracing them as well. If they turn on white supremacists and lose them as voters then they will lose their winning margins, which are slim, in states where they count on winning.

I think the divide now is just lunatics and sane people. The Republican party has embraced being totally insane. You can now make up any damn thing you want as a Republican and shout it from the rooftops. January 6 was just another tourist day at the capitol. Donald Trump won the 2020 election. Vaccines are a plot against the American people. Doctors and scientists are all in on it. There was massive voter fraud in the 2020 election. I mean it just goes on and on and on. This is now what Republicans are campaigning on and they show no signs of stopping.

A good percentage of their voters have embraced this and so that supports the continuation down that path. State Republicans are going to change the voting laws, drastically reduce the numbers of polling stations so that people need to stand in line for hours to vote particularly in places that have higher numbers of people of color, and just overall make voting as difficult as possible.

The Democrats are sane but they just do not learn lessons from past experience. When Republicans can't win with the rules that are in place, they change the rules. They do it over and over and over. They are doing it right now in states across the country. Texas Democrats have just come right out and said it does not matter what they do they will lose the fight to prevent Texas Republicans from instituting new voter suppression legislation. At the federal level Democrats essentially seem to believe doing nothing to stop this is better than doing something because they seem to think people will suddenly wake up and realize how horrible the Republicans have been...NEWS FLASH they are not waking up to that.
