I own and really like Joe's earliest five or so albums. He really rocked out, and had the benefit of covering half a dozen stellar Butch Hancock songs. His live album, Live Shots, is an excellent representation of the power of his concerts.
The uninitiated might want to check out: She Never Spoke Spanish To Me, If You Were A Bluebird, I Had My Hopes Up High, and Musta Notta Gotta Lotta. I love that he and The Clash got along so well and he even assisted with Should I Say Or Should I Go.
I've seen Joe in several incarnations: solo, with a band, with his legendary group, The Flatlanders (with Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore), and even in the audience when Lucinda Williams opened for Graham Parker. Joe deserves to be heard!
