On a different rant away from politics, but still dealing with the decay of human institutions...

I just finished this book about the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria out of Troy, Missouri, and how her husband, an obviously innocent man, Russ Faria was convicted for the murder before having his conviction overturned and getting an acquittal in the second trial.

What is so disgusting about this case was this man spent four years in prison and from the start, he was clearly innocent and authorities refused to look at another more viable suspect.

This is how bad this case was - this man had factual evidence that clearly showed he could not have committed this murder and the investigators and prosecutor did everything they could to not only ignore this murder but also to resist even investigating the best suspect from the start.

The factual evidence was while he was out of the home, he spent time with four people, then on his way home, made several stops at businesses that were caught on tape and where he had physical receipts from these businesses with time stamps.   Another piece of huge evidence was his wife was stabbed over fifty times and when he found her he was in the same clothing and shoes as depicted in the videos and was wearing the same exact clothing when the police arrived and his clothing had NO blood on it at all (authorities tried to claim he stripped off all his clothes and killed her while naked and then cleaned up, which was disproven because no blood or cleaning items were found in sinks, baths or showers or elsewhere).

On top of this, paramedics stated his wife's body was cold and stiff and bloodstains were drying or congealed (a good investigator would have conducted bloodstain experiments to mimic blood drying times or at least consulted with bloodstain experts regarding drying blood).

Investigators based their conclusions on Russ Faria's erratic behavior after finding his wife and him telling authorities he thought she killed herself because she had terminal cancer and was with depression.

There were other things that were ignored and later the real murderer later became known - not only that, she not only was later believed to have killed her own mother but later did kill another man while framing him as if he was Russ Faria's accomplice.

Faria later settled a lawsuit with the insurance company covering the officers, but the prosecutor and judge were dismissed from the lawsuit due to their ABSOLUTE immunity (see, those folks get that to remove any sort of intimidation from bringing and judging court cases).

Just an all-around horrible case for an innocent man. The sad thing is there are still family members of Betsy Faria that believe her husband did kill her.
