Icon Music publishing rights....entails what?

I get all of these musicians selling their publishing rights and all - I mean, when they do pass away, who else is going to protect their legacy like they would have done when still alive and if they have a chance to control it while alive, it sort of makes sense.

I imagine the complexity of such sales is enormous.  But what I wonder is what do these sales involve as far as what happens as time goes on? Do these artists make stipulations what these songs can and can't be used for and so on?

I mean, I can't see Neil Young allowing his music to be used for some sort of product jingle.

I would love to see an in-depth accounting of what these sales mean going forward.  For example, does the artist include something like some sort of panel or overseers decide in the future what the music can be used for, or does those usage requirements expire in 50 years, or something else.

Just curious.....
