If yes, it will exist after the law abiding have been disarmed. So why take weapons away from the law abiding who successfully intercede in behalf of law enforcement and other law abiding people, often without firing a round, at a minimum of a million times per year? Of course those statistics and happy ending stories rarely get the wall to wall media coverage.
Let me address point one, we as a country and our government are not going to disarm people. There is no possible way to take people's guns away. With the millions upon millions of guns out there already, it can't be done and so it will never happen. Obama openly said more than once he did not want to take anybody's guns away. The fact stands, people in the US will remain heavily armed as long as they want to be. So, this remains one of the lies repeated by Republican politicians and the gun lobby so that people will repeat the lie. This crap about taking people's guns is total nonsense. It is to create frightened gun owners that will support Republicans who use this as another idiotic wedge issue.
On point two, I'd love to see where or who said that a "million" times a year that a gun owner stops gun violence because the guy who created the training programs to teach law enforcement officers how to deal with an active shooter says the percentage of this violence is stopped by a "good guy with a gun" just 3% of the time. In fact the reality is that the "good gun owners" out there, the millions of them, stop an infinitesimal amount of crime.
So, all this nonsense about more guns will stop gun violence is probably one of the most idiotic thing Republicans and gun lobbyists shout. We've got millions and millions of guns out there and what it leads to is more gun violence, not more crime stopped. In fact as the number of gun owners grows, crime goes up as well. According to the stats presented and the studies done, most gun owners are going to be inept and useless in an active shooting situation. It's a fantasy that gun owners have that they will save the day with their gun. It may happen, but not very often.
The guy that murdered his doctor and shot up people in a hospital in Tulsa bought the rifle he had less than two hours before going to the hospital and bought his pistol in a pawn shop a day or two before. I guess for a matter of hours he was a good gun owner...then he was a murderer.
