I think it was against the Packers. We went to a few Patriots games back then. I am pretty certain this was the first one we attended though because it left an impression. Plus when we got home our parents thought we got loaded at the game because we stunk of beer.
We also started a riot in the bleachers at Fenway Park at a Red Sox game because my friend Dave was a fan of a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals named Dan Quisenberry and he brought a baseball to the game he wanted the guy to autograph. So, before the game he threw the ball down to Quisenberry to have him sign it. The guy said "Toss me the ball I will sign it for you, kid."
So, he throws it down to him and Quisenberry takes the ball and just throws it into the dugout area. Dave yells to him "Are you going to sign my ball?" and Quisenberry says "What ball?" and laughs.
So, Dave starts yelling "Quisenberry took my ball!" and the fans in the bleachers are all drinkers so they all start getting angry and yelling at Quisenberry. Then they start throwing anything and everything they can get their hands on down at the Royals players that are in the bullpen with him Things rapidly are out of control the fans are trying to get down into the Royals bullpen to beat the hell out of Quisenberry.
Some Boston cops end up coming up into the bleachers to try to cool things down and they are yelling at people "What the hell is going on?" and someone or more than one person points at Dave and says "That pile of shit Quisenberry stole that kid's baseball"
The cop looks at Dave and asks if that is true and he says it is. At which point the cop takes out his billy club and leans over the bullpen wall, raps on the wall with the club and says "Quisenberry, I am coming down there and you better have that baseball!"
He then turns to the crowd of drunk fans and says "Now knock this shit off! This kid gets his ball back or Quisenberry gets a new set of knuckles! I will take care of this!" and waves the night stick.
The drunks all cheer and yell all sorts of profanities at "Queasy" who is now nowhere to be seen. Truth was in the 1970s and 1980s the Boston Police were known to give players and fans of opposing teams a little extra and I think Queasy knew that because the cop came back with the baseball and it was signed and Quisenberry did not pitch that night.
