I promise I won't toot this horn again for a while - but just for posterity sake - the DBIS turns 25 today. The DBIS started life as a single page uploaded to the internet on August 30th, 1997. 25 years ago. Over half of my life ago. (to see that single page - click here - or click the 'throwback sites' link below).
It started as an exercise in 'getting something online'. I literally could have chosen any subject - anything. It was a time when websites could be a scrolling parade of an animated dancing baby. I chose Baerwald. I was in to tape trading at the time - concert recordings - mostly jam bands of the 90s. Somewhere along the way I got a copy of a Jewel show from NY opened by David. Hmmm - I thought - he must be up to something musically. Online info was scant - so I started this here site in response. Shortly after going online - I was contacted by Jeff Wells - who offered some artwork for the site. And then within a month or so I made the acquaintance of Eugene who was working at a VA hospital within 15 minutes of my apartment. And that was that - I was hooked. Not to mention that within 2 years we would get A Fine Mess. A whirlwind start to say the least.
I treasure the people I've come to know - both online and off through the DBIS. I miss those who've gone away and those we've lost. Although this site has DB as the center of content - it is obviously the posters and the lurkers over the years that have given it character and life. And more or less the reason it still survives.
Thanks to all.
Dan
oh. by the way - I think it's Pat Brown and Marc's birthday as well. If my math is right - 62 today.
