Dan,
Thank you so much for the feedback. I really do appreciate it. As an initial disclaimer, however, I would note that I did not write the annotation of "Hope you dig", etc. This was written by the person who posted my poem, seemingly out of his enthusiasm for it, but unbeknownst to me heretofore. I was a little aghast to read it as it’s entirely antithetical to the spirit of the poem, and I would argue any other poem that I’ve written.
In answer to your question, however,I would say that the imagery stemmed from my notion that all of yesterday’s memories, feelings, and secrets are forever operative within us, even as we are in the process of aging and dying. They are simply sometimes difficult to touch upon or extract at a point. I wrote the poem as a lifelong dedication to my son, that we continue to live and resonate with the essence of our lives even as we wind down.
Thank you, again, for your note. Don’t hesitate to write back if you would like.
Lloyd Benjamin
