Hello Friends,
After a detailed look at my schedule, I would like to ride Saturday, Oct 25th, for BOO 2003. I, of course would like you to join me. See how that works for your schedule(s). As usual, it is the weekend of the time change (that very night, so we get ONE whole extra hour of sleep).
If successful, this will be the 4th annual Boo Century on the C and O towpath. I would like to do either Georgetown to Williamsport, or Williamsport to Georgetown. The other option (but a wee bit longer), is Cumberland to Shepherdstown (this option features the famous Paw Paw tunnel....bring your headlights!!).
I will ride no matter what, and I hope you will accompany me. As some of you know, weather is fickle that time of year.
A HISTORY: First year, I rode alone, weather was glorious. Second year, it was winter-like cold though mainly sunny until we got just south of Harper's Ferry (ask Joe Curren or John Benjamin about this one), we called it "The Cold and Wet one". Third year (last year), try though we did, we capitulated and pulled off 40 miles downriver from Cumberland (dense rain and dropping temps). (ask Dan Heatherly and Flavia Fagnani about THAT one). No matter... constant ingredients remain: spirituality, remembrance, newly formed friendships, and peace.
Think of a theme/dedication for this year's ride. It is always in BOO"s memory,(of course), but moreso in the spirit of All Things Great and Small. So feel free to dedicate/ride in the memory or spirit of one of your own. This year, I officially dedicate the ride to the loving memory of Dr. Dan Mark Jacobson (my buddy...rest in peace, Bro'). Sooo..officially it will be the Dan J dedication this year, unless I hear otherwise from you guys.
Also...I KNOW I have been procrastinating, but I will try to get T shirts made.
FIRST: Reply if you think you can make it at ALL. Then ...details will follow. Remember, you DON"T have to ride the whole 100miles. The ride can easily be accessed/ridden in sections. Pick 20 , 40 or 60 miles, if you like. There are enough access points that we can join one another, just for sections. Leisurely pace at all times (average about 10 miles in one hour; includes rests for water, chocolate/energy bars, muscle massage, photos, reading historical markers etc..). Feel FREE to invite a few close friends of yours whom you feel would enjoy this event.
AS SOON AS I HEAR BACK from you, I will Email equipment recommendations, suggestions for shuttles, etc...based upon past year's experiences. WE MUST GET ON THE TRAIL NO LATER than 9AM to have ANY chance of making DESTO before sunset; earlier would be even better.
HOPE YOU CAN MAKE IT,
GENE
P.S. BOO is squeaking loudly...can hear him. |
