1. The battle right now is not between Republicans and Democrats or Trump and Democrats, it is between Republicans and MAGA. These are the two entities at war. Democrats are sidelined for this and really have nothing they can do.
2. Trump and the MAGA nuts behavior benefits the Democrats. Trump selling t-shirts and coffee cups with his mugshot on them is a complete scam that only his MAGA loons could fall for. In previous decades, it would be the opposing party selling the t-shirts with the opposing guy's mugshot on them...now it is the guy in the mugshot selling them. Why? Being a criminal is a good thing to the MAGA crowd. They do not want a rule of law country, they want a chaos country where they can shoot their enemies with an AR-15. Polling is already starting to show that Trump's grift selling garbage with his mugshot on it is turning off more voters and they don't like it. Sure, the MAGA nuts like it but that won't help Trump.
3. While Trump has a good chunk of Republican voters in the palm of his sweaty little fist, it is likely no more than 35-40% of Republican voters. The issue with this is while that is a good chunk of voters he can use to hold the Republican party hostage, it is not enough to win in a general election. Basically 35-40% of the Republicans is probably less than 20% of the US population, probably like 15%, so it is a smaller amount of people than many people seem to think it is. It's enough people to bully Republicans, but it is far too few people to win an election. MAGA loons seem to think there are far more of them than there really are.
4. Trump's huge problem is he only tries to appeal to this small base of MAGA nuts. Yes, they are noisy, yes, they do and say crazy stuff that gets them a lot of attention, but if you want to be a politician that wins elections in this country, you have to try to appeal to everybody. You are everybody's president, not just your lunatic follower's president. Trump can't grasp this, or he does, and only cares about damaging the Republican party. Trump took the mantel from Hillary and he is now by far the most divisive politician in the country. His nuts will turn out to vote for him but many, many more people will turn out against him. This is Trump's own fault because he never even attempts to appeal to anybody except the MAGA loons and as he has gotten in more and more trouble, he tries even harder to appeal to the worst of the MAGA nuts...that's a bad place to be and you'll never win doing that.
5. Democrats don't fear Trump running against Biden, they do fear almost anybody else running against Biden. The most hilarious aspect of what Republican leaders say is that the Democrats fear Trump and so are trying to remove him from the race. The Democrats would never want that, Trump is their best weapon. They have not laid a glove on Trump, why would they, he is the only guy Biden gets a sure fire victory over. Run anybody else, except for DeSantis, and they probably have a very close race on their hands. Know that all the people that have brought down Trump in all of these legal cases are not Democrats, they are all Republicans. Republicans are the ones testifying against Trump, that witnessed his crimes and are telling juries and the legal system what they saw. If they did not testify against Trump, there would be no case against him. Democrats are just enjoying the ride. They better hope though that Trump makes it as the Republican presidential candidate, because if he doesn't...well...it is questionable if Biden wins.
