I've been following the production of this film for over three years. Scorsese and DeNiro have made several of my favorite films (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, King of Comedy, Good Fellas), so I really, really wanted to like this. But truth be told, I found it to be far too long, with one-note acting from all three leads, and it missed an opportunity to provide a deeper understanding of the relevant history. And I don't mind 3 hour plus movies, but damn, there was too much talking, especially from Leo,  that didn't enhance the narrative. Yes, there was some gorgeous cinematography, and the beginning and end were impressive but I can't lie.  I hope to hear others chime in. Perhaps it was an expectations thing. Perhaps I've sufficiently lowered yours so you will have the experience I had hoped for. And I have to add that Mrs. Peter T. felt as I did.

Still, I'm eagerly anticipating DeNiro's next effort as he plays two different gangsters in Barry Levenson's Wise Guys.
