Listened to the opera in full for the first time, tonight. What a kick. The subject matter is a bummer but is fitting the flow of discussion today; the birth/early risings of Nazism.
--- also just read that the opera was banned by the Nazis in 1933. Revived in the '60s.
It's in full on youtube: https://youtube.com/watch?v=d88MDM5vCTA&feature=shared
(If I'm in the mood for an opera I definitely lean toward Italian. Puccini specifically. Romance language is a lovely sounding vocal instrument (to me, that is. No doubt some prefer Germanic sounds. English certainly is fluid/lovely).
One other thing: I think (not certain) Puccini's "verismo (realist)" style of opera storytelling..
..is in the same style as this one. Seems to be "verismo." I think so, anyway! I'm far, far, from well-versed in opera. Only now & then in the mood for arias; sopranos typically, but Nessun dorma is a mutha of a tenor aria.
Thank you for this diversion, David🤙
