Anyway, finally A&M pulled the plug, and we had to clear everything out of the Hollywood studio, and I went to pick up my guitars and such. There were a bunch of notebooks in with the ADAT boxes and while most of them were just Bottrill's session notes, one of them was also a kind of journal of Dave's, which had made its way into the tape box. I saw the name Baerwald written all over the place and curiosity overwhelmed what little honor and integrity I had at the time and I read a few pages–hoping i could figure out what the issue was. It seemed he wondered if I was who I was at all, and thought I might be some kind of spy, a Communist agent or something, which actually I thought was kind of flattering in some weird way. But, so, yeah, extremely difficult to work like that.
All thia should go without saying, that this is only my side of the Rashomon story, and Dave I'm quite sure would have a very different and equally valid recollection of the period.
