In debates, Reagan was so good at inoculating himself when it came to major issues, including his age and mental acuity.  Does everyone recall how he dealt with that with Walter Mondale? 

This is what I mean by learning about things that work regardless of the teacher (now, don't get me wrong - I am NOT suggesting Dems mimic stuff that is completely inappropriate from inappropriate people, but tactics that actually work).

Now, here's a prediction of what is going to happen next time - Biden will do so well that MAGA will say not only was he on drugs this second time and that Biden is such a conniver that he purposely threw the first debate to lower expectations for the second one.
