Icon A trip to Wales, UK....

Just wanted to share that my family just returned from Wales in the UK.  Our second daughter married her beau in Wales (it is a long story).

In more ways than one, this was a trip from Hell (so many obstacles were tossed in our way that almost derailed the wedding - my daughter was having complications from a broken nose from a couple of years ago in a softball game).  At one point, two days before the wedding, I thought it was going to have to be canceled, but it worked out.  My daughter and wife arrived the day before the wedding.  Due to the nose issue, three of my girls and I flew over first.  We were all supposed to go at once but that didn't work out).

Anyway, it all worked out, though the stress almost knocked me out, but in the end, if you EVER get an opportunity to go to Wales, TAKE IT!

Wales is known for its kind and friendly people and that is 100 percent true.  Those folks love to chat (Btw, my paternal heritage goes back to 1031 in Wales).  And in fact, by the last night we were in Wales, I was burnt out and overwhelmed from all the socializing with those folks.  I'm not kidding - if you strike up a conversation in about anyway, get ready for a pleasurable never-ending conversation and it as just outstanding.

Their scenery is out of this world and on the West coast where we were at (Bangor) if the temperature hits 80, they issue a heat advisory and it rarely frosts.

I have so many tales about this trip that I won't bore people with, but seriously, my ten days over there have completely changed my outlook on that there are great people in great places unlike here in America.

Lastly, my daughter married a young man from India and this young man is unlike any person I have ever met before.  I never thought I would ever meet a man like this or that he would have found my daughter.

On one day we had to go pick up my daughter and wife at the airport and we spent 4.5 hours alone in the car and in that time he won me completely over and I can honestly say this, as a father, I fell greatly in love with this man.  In total, before this trip, I think we had only been in his presence a total of maybe 12 hours (he even called me from Wales to ask my permission to marry my daughter - I told him that it was not up to me, but up to our daughter and if she said yes, we would certainly welcome him to our family.  Now, here is the thing on that - from how I know this man now, I believe I offended him with that answer because THAT is how gracious and revered he is of family and elders and I think he wanted to tell me that it he had my permission).

Anyway, as I told those at the reception, I never knew such a community actually existed as well as the people in it (oh, the Welsh are terrible at taking compliments because they sincerely believe that their kindness, compassion, and friendliness attributes are simply just normal).

So, go to Wales.

I did try to make arrangements to meet in person with a person across the sea, but that didn't work out.  The time was just too short.
