So, the Kennedy campaign is over. It was not going well, but when Kamala Harris entered the race, his numbers plummeted. Leaving him as basically just a spoiler that would primarily draw votes from Trump. His messaging was more appealing to the MAGA crowd than Democrats and there are MAGA voters that want out and he was a landing spot for them. So, if he continued to run, his campaign was going to cause more damage to the Trump campaign, which frankly, at this moment looks like a badly sinking ship.
Now, apparently when Kennedy reached out to the Harris campaign and people surrounding it to let them know he wanted to drop out and endorse them, nobody would return his calls. So, now supposedly he and his running mate are offering to do this for Trump instead.
If RFK Jr. endorses Trump, well, I think that will seal the deal with it being the end of his political career. That is such a horrendous decision that he may as well walk away from politics. I don't think it matters much as far as the race goes if Kennedy endorses Trump, because the Trump campaign itself is in so much trouble. Trump desperately wants the endorsement though, and obviously Harris/Walz does not. Endorsing Trump just cements Bobby as a nut as he knows as well as anyone that doing so is a fool's errand. Plus backing a criminal looks bad for anybody that does so.
What he should have done is when he saw the Democrats unite behind Harris, he should have announced he was dropping out and supporting her. It would have been a sane act to end a campaign that did not always come across as sane. I think he was trying to do that, but when he could not even get a call back from them, well, he seems to have decided to make his final act a vindictive one instead. It's a bad move and will only harm him in the long run, unless it is in his head that he will replace Trump as the MAGA leader when Trump loses this election.
My advice to RFK would have been, save some face here, get out and endorse Harris/Walz whether they ask you to or not. Yeah, the Democrats have not been nice to you, but your father and your uncle would have recognized this moment as an important one that united the party at the right time. It would serve you much better to be a part of that, rather than getting onboard a rat infested sinking ship, which is what the Trump campaign is.
