Just some musical notes...
Emmett Tinley will be at the Kendall Cafe in Cambridge Ma. on Mon. May 14th.
Saw Van Morrison for the second time this year last Monday night. He was amazing. Hit the stage blowing his sax, jumped into a reggae version of "Day's Like This", and ended the night with a scorching version of "Gloria". In between he blew his harp, played acoustic & electric guitar, scatted, screamed, howled, and crooned (a very nice version of "Someone Like You"). As usual he mixed heavenly with earthly pleasures and sang what should probably be his anthem "Why Must I Always Explain". He was even in a good mood joking with the crowd ("This is the part of the night where I get to hide behind my guitar.") and played rousing versions of "Jackie Wilson Said", "Cleaning Windows", and even "Brown Eyed Girl". He was returning from the New Orleans Jazz Fest and reportedly just added this show in Lowell, Massachusetts because he wanted to stop off in Cambridge on his way home to see some friends. I took a friend that had never seen Van before and he left pleading with me to never let him miss the man again when he's in town.
