Here's just a quick recommendation. I hope some people at least take a peek into this. There's this guy see and his name is Joe Henry. He's gifted in the songwriting department in a big way. A little while back, say I think, 1996 something happened with the direction of his music. He had been taking a sort of down home country approach to the musical settings of the stories he was writing. I don't know what happened but after about a three year break between records Joe came back, dusted himself off, and released a record called "Trampoline". He may have been wandering the desert, visiting monks in Tibet, smashing his guitars in a furious fit of digust with the fact that his head was about to explode with all these words that his damn fingers couldn't keep up with. I don't really know but he took a turn down this alley and wound up somewhere different and we are all the benefactors of this turn. Another three years passed and something called "Fuse" appeared and it was obvious that Joe had found something down that alley. That alley was no dead end and now Joe was naked and sprinting, screaming like a madman, foaming at the mouth, down some brand new avenue. Now, in just a few days, Joe is gonna give us "Scar". He's not alone on this little adventure, he's found others that want to travel with him. Brad Mehldau is one of those guys. Anyway, I may not be doing such a great job of selling you on this but I tell you, you're gonna wanna take this trip. These records don't deserve to be sitting collecting dust in some big corporation store bins. Go buy them! If you like Baerwald you'll like these because Joe is another one of those intelligent, no bullshit, I'm gonna really put my guts into this, kind of song writers. No power pop and nonsense lyrics sold here. So there, that's something to look foward to, isn't it?
