Icon Rob McNelley - "ON"

I want to turn you folks on to some brand new indie music. I'm sure you'll like it too...

I told a story in a post on this board about a year ago [post is here] about a musician friend of mine named Bobby Gene McNelley, and his son Rob who I last saw when he played a Beatles tune for me on his guitar when he was just a kid (8 or 10 maybe). Bobby Gene has been gone for a long time and I was fondly reminiscing about him at your expense.Anyway,  BlockDog (where's Block been anyway?) told me that his son Rob had been playing guitar for Scott Miller [link here for site] and The Commonwealth.

I've sorta been keeping tabs on Rob's musical career since then and he's been a real busy boy I've discovered.  He's been playing with a lot of top shelf talent it seems.  Alison Moorer, Tinsley Ellis,  Tim O'Brien, Scott Miller to name just a few and he's currently touring with Delbert McClinton [link here].

I was thrilled to discover the other day that he's just released his first solo album.  It's called "ON".  He's got a great new website he just set up too [http://www.robmcnelley.com] where you can hear full length versions of 4 songs from it.  I like them all myself, but I think "C'mon, C'mon" [have a listen] would appeal to you folks especially (it's got a DB flavor to it). And no, it's not the same song as Sheryl's. He's got a great sound, sort of a funky, bluesy fusion, but he can go all over the map too. Damn, he's really honed his skills since I last saw him. Go check him out! Listen to the music and if you like it, buy it...direct from the man himself.

BTW, Scott Miller and the Commonwealth's  latest,  "Upside, Downside" is mighty fine too. [Here's killer sample] from it called "Amtrak Crescent" with Rob on guitar and Tiim O'Brien on mandolin.
