: : I don't know how many of you out there are familiar with DB's contemporaries. If you're interested in anyone else from The Tuesday Night Music Club, then you must check out "Thud" by Kevin Gilbert. We lost Kevin in 1996, I believe. Even so, another reportedly fantastic album: "The Shaming of the True" has come out posthumously.
: => I'm still not sure which one I like best Thud or TSOTT. Both are truely amazing albums and worth getting.
: : Personally, I found myself just as compelled by Kevin's work on Thud as I have by David's work, and that's saying something. He has a political and humourous bite to his lyrics too. And "Song for a Dead Friend" is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard.
: => oh yeah! I almost am not able to play that song. Brings a tear to the eye everytime I hear it
: : I know that Kevin is also credited on DB's "Triage". I don't know how David feels about Kevin or his work. Maybe he'd like to comment...?
: => I think I've read a mail about kevin by david on a mailinglist, not sure though. I think he said Kevin was a crazy old genius or something like that!
: : So there it is if you didn't already know--check out THUD.
: Everybody sure should do that! And buy The Shaming of the True as well!

----> thanks for your acknowledgement, Coen. I just believe anybody who digs DB is gonna dig Kevin Gilbert. I just wish he were still around.
I have a terrible track record with several of my contemporary musical favorites: they've been dying! Jeff Buckley, Michael Hedges, Mark Sandman, Kenny Kirkland and Kevin. We've lost all these guys since 1997, I think.
Such is life, though....
