I've been meaning to share this but just keep forgeting or have not had the time. In early February I went to see Brad Mehldau. The trio was incredible and even closed the night with Nick Drake's "River Man". A song I was really hoping to hear that evening but did not expect to get because they had been doing some new songs up to that point. After the the show I had the chance to talk to Mr. Mehldau. He was excited about having a new album just about ready to go which is being produced by Jon Brion. I had brought up John Brion because we had been discussing Brad's work on Joe Henry's last record and he told me I should go to Largo out in LA. I mentioned that I'd read about Jon Brion's regular gig there. He said Joe was doing a residency there and he thought I'd love the show.

He also told me that Joe was dropped by Mammoth Records and given a "golden handshake". They gave Joe his record and said he could have it to do with what he pleased. Maybe there's room at Lost Highway for Joe. If he's got the rights to his Mammoth catalog that would not be a bad deal for Lost Highway to pick him up. This brings me to a question for David (if you happen to read this post): Who's got the rights to "Triage" and "Bedtime Stories" and is there ever a possibilty of getting them back out? With Lost Highway maybe? I know Andrea had just brought this up as well.

Anyway I thought Joe Henry sort of fits the profile for a Lost Highway kind of artist. Don't you think?
