: Does anyone know what sort of album Mr. Mehldau is planning?

All I can tell you Scott is he seemed pretty pleased with what they've got down thus far. I asked how he liked working with Jon Brion and he had nothing but great things to say. He also had praise for Craig Street who produced Joe Henry's "Scar", Brian Blade and Marc Ribot both of whom played on "Scar" as well. I did of course ask how it was to work with Ornette but all I got back on that one was "Good". I don't think that was a negative thing with regards to Ornette he just seemed to want to talk about some other stuff more than that. Mr. Mehldau is a great guy and we ended our conversation with a pretty comical exchange of thank you's.

: As far as Joe Heney goes, it seems really odd that he would be dropped now, as his popularity seems to be growing quite a bit (particularly thanks to Madonna's nod to him, and the fabulous presence of Ornette Coleman on his last disc). I wouldn't imagine it's be too hard for him to get a record deal, but then again I wouldn't imagine such things for David either...

I was surprised as well about Joe. I really love "Scar". Brad said that Mammoth sort of thought "Scar" would be more of a pop album and wanted to push things in that direction. That's why the parting of the ways I guess but he indicated that it was a mutual and friendly parting with them giving Joe his music. As far as Joe gaining popularity I hope that's true but personally I never hear anything about him. When "Scar" came out here in the Boston area it was on sale in the stores for 6 or 7 bucks so they were giving it away. I don't know how well it sold but I've yet to hear anything from it on the radio. I do hope Joe lands a deal somewhere he's too good not to.

: Also, I don't really mind political topics, and I didn't mean to come off as some kind of "music-talk only" enforcer. I just wanted to provide some kind of emotional antidote to the bombardment of evil conspiracy scenarios...

I know where you're coming from Scott. I was really just trying to be funny with the title of my post. Kent did seem to get a bit carried away but I think Mr. Baerwald is a great supporter of being aware of what's going on in our world so I don't think it's unusual to find this sort of info here. The barcode thing was a bit over the top though. Hey and by the way I remember you're a pianist aren't you? What sort of stuff are you up to now?
