: When do you think we stop trying to not turn into those things? When we get married? Have kids?
I think it's when we have enough experience to realize the things we fear aren't so bad. That anonymity can be a wonderful thing. It's also when I started being proud of my father and the things he's done with his life. He's a teacher and an environmental scientist and he's effected thousands of people. (He was on the research team that developed the juice box. He has one of the prototypes in his office and it still has water in it from 20 years ago.) Ok...I'm on a tangent.
When we realize that sometimes, our folks were right, that they did the dorky things they did often times to help us (like taking a desk job rather than being a rock star) it makes that just a bit easier.
One other thing, I became a pencil pushing, bean counting, paper shuffling social work administrator. But I'm a damn good one and I do my job in a sort of "Gonzo" style...so I became an updated version of my father. And I'm pretty happy with myself.
You made my day sir!
