: So I just saw the damn show. I thought I was past the point of being angry about that whole sorrowful episode, but seeing the spin yet re-spun... Christ, what a despicable pack of lies. What a despicable round of boot-licking and lies. God.

David: I saw the show too, and thought they did a rather remarkable job of gloss. I know that the whole TMC legacy is not that one song that Sheryl claimed was autobiographical on Letterman, but I couldn't help noticing: never once did she claim to have written that song. Instead she talks of the vocal being the core of it, and how that vocal came from her experience. It was just like politics, where the smart politician refuses to be drawn into an argument that will make him look bad either way, so he changes the topic very smoothly and slightly.
After reading pretty much everything I could find on the 'net about TMC and its members over the past few years, I guess I was surprised that the alleged "behind the music" show didn't focus more on that stage in Sheryl's career, with more interviews including you and everyone. (With the obvious exception.) But the final few minutes of the show made everything clear: it was a vehicle produced to sell Sheryl's new album. Nothing more.
Horror of horrors though, I actually like a lot of Sheryl's music. I hope that doesn't mean I can't be your fan in good standing. :) I like yours better, but she's got some pretty good songs out there.
