Reg one of the funniest shows on tv over here at the moment is the royle family and it's taken from that where the dad is a stereotype of  the northern working class 'father'. he uses this expression (not the steamboat bit) throughout and it's losing something on it's way across the atlantic no doubt...but so does everything else I post. so actually I'd rather have my ass left the way it is...
