After I read with horror the news article that Will pointed out about the government plan to tamper with the POSSE COMITATUS ACT, I immediately sat down and wrote a terse one page fax to my Senators and House members, and Dumbya as well as Tom Ridge, head of the Bu$h administration's SS--- Department of Homeland Security.
I would like everyone here to adapt this sample letter that I am printing below, and FAX it to BOTH your US SENATOR and US HOUSE members, and the PRESIDENT, and TOM RIDGE. The reason why I am asking for you to FAX it, is because the politicos give the highest priority to FAXES.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH E-MAIL!
ALL E-MAIL IS DISCARDED AND NOT READ!
Do it TODAY, because they are planning on acting on this BY THIS WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 2002.
Your CIVIL LIBERTIES and what little there is left of the CONSTITUTION are depending on YOU!

As a constituent of your congressional district, I read in horror the July 21, 2002 report from the Associated Press newswire that Tom Ridge is planning to ask Congress to repeal or amend the Posse Comitatus Act, to allow the military to assist in civilian police activities. I strongly disagree with any such action, as 18 USC 1385 has served this country well for many years.
It was bad enough that the USA Patriot Act of 2001 was passed without giving anyone in the Senate or House to read the bill before it was voted on. The fact that such an involved piece of legislation was introduced only eleven days after the �alleged terrorist� events of September 11, informs anyone with even a small amount of intelligence that that bill was written long before that event, and was a complete rush to judgment. This law harms more than it protects.
The fact that under the USA Patriot Act, law enforcement can come into my home and search without a warrant or just or probable cause and search for anything and everything they desire, causes me to ask myself: �Is this the USA in 2002, or Germany in 1936?� To think that you dare to call such an action an act of protection is deplorable and despicable to me.
How does removing more of my civil liberties, freedom and destroying the U.S. Constitution protect me? It does not protect anyone except the current administration, which is coming very close to all-out fascism. As one of our great founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin once said:
�Anyone who would give away permanent liberties for
temporary security, deserves neither liberty or security.�

Any tampering with the Posse Comitatus Act would be considered by myself as an act of treason, and the onset of fascism in our once great country. Your support of any such action, I am reminding you, can be corrected in the voting booth during your next reelection.
