I totally agree with you on this issue.
My musical taste is so varied and I try to accept that each has his own taste and interest.
There was a time in my teens when I was a smug idiot about my favorite "genre" being all there is.
It amazes me how folks will pick a musical style and never ever stray from that flavor although there is so much out there to round out our musical education.

A good example of what your speaking of happened here on this list right after SXSW.
I asked if anyone had caught the opening act for David's set and the reply was really cruel and uncalled for.
I had no idea that the excellent bass player for this band, who I consider a friend from another list, was here on this board and it made me feel pretty bad.

I was and am a musical fanatic so I followed many, many bands during my "coming up". (still do)
As I grow older and mature (somewhat) I have opened up to even more musical styles and adventures from newgrass to new age to Zydeco.
These days I prefer to "follow" the great talent that frequents the intimate venues where you can have a "house concert" type experience and the artist is still interested in contact with the fans. These are the people who are reshaping the way that music makes its way to our ears.

Anyway, if an artist or genre is not your "cup o tea", that's all you have to say.
