I'm responsible for what doesn't sell in our retail chain, and believe me that's a shitload of bad than all of the good that sells!
Here is a fact for ya, did you know that Sony makes more money from recycling a CD than they do from selling it?  Are they just producing mass quantities to not sell?  The industry is not in the record business to culture singer/songwriters that will have a meaningful career but rather Tootsie pop flavour of the day $$$$ makers that will be gone tomorrow leaving nothing but a glut of product in the hock shops and used stores.
Again, there is a lot of good stuff out there, but it's a bit discouraging to never hear it, see it and always have to hunt for it.
