I immediately thought of an album review from Greil Marcus back in 1975. Born to Run had just come out and in the Rolling Stone review, Marcus said this of the first few seconds of the title song, "The finest compression of rock & roll thrill since the opening riffs of "Layla".
Fifty years later and it's hard to argue with Marcus's assessment, but I'm going to offer up some equally high-voltage, hair-raising, jaw-dropping gems. I've got one, and I'm pondering the next so stay tuned!
