Wow, Fibromyalgia..that is a very complicated syndrome, because it is not really a pure entity, at least as diagnosed in the community at large.  If one sticks to strict diagnostic criteria, there is indeed a group of patients with myalgias, multiple trigger points (I think you need at least 12), etc..but then there's the associated psychological profile, which I don't think is very difficult to distinguish from a pure biochemical depression; AND to make things more confusing, so many of the somatic symptoms and even altered serum and cerebrospinal fluid findings can be found in just depression alone.  Court is still out on that one, but that doesn't mean effective treatment can't be offered.  Medications, massage, other somatic therapies are definitely of help. Some hypnosis techiniques and biofeedback are useful also.  Tough to "cure".  So many in the medical community abuse the diagnosis though, by labeling anybody with pain unexplained, or muscle aching as "Fibromyalgia".  My own belief is that diagnosis is really all important to begin approaches to pain management.  If we have the correct diagnosis established, I think the majority of people with previously ascertained "untreatable chronic pain", can in fact be helped a great deal, tailoring therapies to their specific diagnosis.
