Now that all of the original reasons given by the Shrub Adminstration for going to war with
Iraq have turned out to be false, inaccurate, exaggerated or straight out lies, how many
people can honestly say that if the reasons now being given (i.e. Saddam was a brutal
dictator, liberation of the Iraqi people, human rights issues, et cetera) would have been
enough to persuade the American people to go to war with Iraq?To further illustrate, does anyone believe a war against Iraq could have been sold if Shrub
had said, "Saddam Hussein is a brutal dictator, who has used poison gas on the Kurds
and leads a country by horrific repression, therefore, we need to start an air campaign and
then march troops into Baghdad to remove this despot."In my opinion, the answer would have been a resounding "no".My point is not to defend Hussein, but to make it clear that our government has a right and
duty to be honest with the American people and especially honest with an all volunteer
armed forces. Something Shrub has not done at all.
