Over Thanksgiving most of my family gathered in this unique town. I had never been to Colorado before and had been looking forward to this trip for a long time. It lived up to my expectations and beyond. What an incredibly beautiful place. The mountains lifted my spirits with their majesty and I could see how the American Indians would treasure them so. The mountains around Ouray (which is at about 8000 ft elevation) are red because of the heavy iron content which rusts. The people were interesting and interested. A female potter and her glass-blowing husband have a daughter at the University of Colorado who was on her way to Shanghai to work on her honor's thesis. The thesis is about why the Chinese government doesn't allow information about infectious diseases released to the general public. She had secured an interview with a gentleman who had been  jailed for 6 months because he was passing out flyers about how to avoid contracting Aids. There is the only person in the US that does glass bottle sand art, which he generously showed us how to do. The owner of the general mercantile store proudly displayed a picture of his cat that had lived to be 26 years old. There is a pool that is filled with water from a hot springs with different areas at different temperatures going from 70  to 106 degrees. There is a little free ski/sled hill. Ouray has also become an ice-climbing draw for people around the world. It was a wonderful experience and quite a change from S. Fla. Anyone else been somewhere quite different then what they are used to?
