I saw some sportswriters talking about this on ESPN or FoxSports and they all consistently said the said the same thing. Pete Rose lied and played them (because they trusted and believed his initial stories) and he should not be put into the Hall of Fame...and they were pissed!)

Other than Ty Cobb I think Pete's got the wrap on the most hated man in all of baseball.
