Electronic Drums from the 80's!  Barf!  That's why I really didn't like that group that much.  But I should say that the only 84 band stuff I've heard was on the YCDTOSA series and the biggest gag factor for me was the blatty keyboards.  I believe Peter Wolf was to blame for a lot of that stuff.

My picks for Live Zappa are the Following: (no particular order)

1. The Best Band You've Never Heard in Your Life: (88 Band) Lots of older material and some new stuff...also soundcheck jams which are a scream.  And if you remember the whole Swaggart Fiasco, the swaggart version of Lonesome Cowboy Bert is worth the price of Admission.

2. Broadway the Hard Way: (88 Band):  Lots of unreleased stuff and reworked old stuff dealing with political issues of the late Reagan years.

3.  You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol 2, the Helsinki Show:  Same band as on Live at the Roxy with about 6 months of touring under their belts.  Very tight.  Well behaved audience too. George Duke hits himself with a stick and cries.

4. Make a Jazz Noise Here: (88 Band) Mostly Instrumental ensemble stuff.  Really cool how such a large band can be so acrobatic.

5. Just Another Band from L.A.: (Flo and Eddie Band) Three Words.  Billy the Mountain.  That's the short version mind you. (only about 20 mins long)  The long version on Playground Psychotics has the guitar solo and a few extra details that are a hoot.

OK...gotta go.
