Just saw it. It's for everyone over 18. I'm not Catholic and don't believe in Ash Wednesday. The reports about the Jews being made to seem more powerful than they were 'seem' true to me. I've got to look some more of this stuff up, before I can speak about the film's veracity.
All the boolsheet aside, this is a film that depicts someone suffering. Horribly. Unenduringly. Remember that scene from Glory where Denzel is getting whipped and he looks at the camera? Well, extrapolate that into an hour or more and give it a much broader reason and you have the sense of the film. It's bound to be a downer if you don't believe. If you do, it shows the sacrifice. I should've capitalized that last bit.
I have more to say, but I have to 'coalesce' as APC would say or hey, just collect my thoughts.
Would I recommend it? Yes. Peter Gabriel's soundtrack was better, but this was a great 'depiction'. It was hard to spectate. I think that was the point. I don't think it will help all the people who like the film to come together - Graham and the Pope won't be hanging out anytime soon. Perhaps it will bring some folks to understand why Christians revere Jesus. That might be a message worthy of the 'globe', while we're out there messing with the 'dissident's' standard of living.
