The Bad: A few days later the poor parents of the girl were on his show and he came back to them and said “I’ll give you the last word”. Like this was a debate or something. I had to email him and let him know that was extremely insensitive to treat a grieving family like they were one of his debates.
Really it's that kind of stuff that makes me think O'Reilly isn't too bright. That really is my biggest problem with the guy...he often, to me, appears clueless...it's not so much his politics or which way he leans...I don't care about that he's welcome to his beliefs. I think as you said, he'll push a question to try and get a response...and sure, with say politicians, it can be hard sometimes to get a straight answer...I just don't think he asks the right questions a lot of the time.
Are you referring to the story of the supposed affair with Kerry? That was a pretty lame trick by Rove (I would assume) and nothing has come of any substance so it was just a diversionary tactic
No, not really. I mean there's a good chance that was Rove...testing the waters so to speak...by inventing a sex scandal...in the early stages a guy like Rove with float a bunch of stuff and see how the opposing campaign handles it...if the sex thing was Rove I would guess he took notes on how it went. Maybe he has now crossed "sex scandal" off his list as that one didn't do too well. Then he moves on to Vietnam...show a picture with Kerry and Fonda in the same place...play up Kerry opposing the war...see how that plays out...that's just the game of political dirty tricks to see how Kerry's people react...how the media reacts...how the public reacts...etc...it's to feel out where the soft spots will be to attack your opponent...right now I think the big political soft spot for Democrats will be gay marriage...I think Rove will enjoy that issue and find many ways to hurt the Democrats with it...that's a hard one because Kerry and Edwards will tiptoe around that one and Rove knows it. So, he's got something that hurts...is it a big issue...no...but the media likes it...it works the public into a froth...and Democrats are pussyfooting around on it. That one's high on Rove's board I guess.
The real mistakes I meant though are Rove's policy decisions. These are mistakes that hurt all of us and I think it's pretty despicable to create policy just to win an election...policy that you know makes no sense...a really good and simple example is the amnesty plan. Rove came up with that for 2000 campaign but it was a much smaller plan then. He was going to have Bush say he would grant amnesty to all illegal Mexicans. Rove is tight with the Mexican government so he'd talked extensivly with them about it. Now, when Rove told the GOP about this plan they flat out said "No way Karl!" and produced numbers and examples that showed a plan like that would do serious harm to a state like California. So Rove had to shelf the plan. He didn't have the power then that he has now. Well it's 2004 and what does Rove do right at the beginning of the year...he has Bush announce this amnesty plan...only now it's bigger...much bigger...and includes all illegal aliens and opens our borders to more if they want to come here to work. This hurts the National Security plan they had in place and downright goes against it...I mean they bitch about Canada making it too easy for people to enter their country and how that's a rick to our National Security then they do this...plus we have a weak economy right now and an influx of foreign works would damage it even more...and you have said you worry about your job...well I worry about your job too...and what I'll do for work...I would prefer you keep your job...Bush seems to be saying he could care less...and opening the doors to large corporations who may be able to hire say a guy from India for less than you to take your job...saving the corporation money and putting you on the street...this whole plan Bush has going is very dangerous to this country for a lot of reasons...but Rove is only concerned with seeing if he can syphon minority voters that normally would vote Democrat...which he believes in a tight election could be huge...see what I'm saying? So, that's the kind of mistakes I mean. It's policy created not for the good of the people and the country...and I know there are some people here on this board that like the idea of getting immigrant workers a better situation and so do I but this isn't the way...it's created just to try and win Bush 4 more years but we'll pay for it a lot longer than that. What I see from these people...Rove and Bushco...is a lot of policy that is very danaging to us in the long term but they know even if they win 4 more years they'll be out before they have to deal with it. Same with their space program, promotion of marriage program, No Child Left Behind program...these things are disasters...those are the things I believe are big mistakes and Rove does create policy just to swing votes...that just bad news. Rove is behind this big push to create this constitutional amendment as well...which is flat out an attack on our constitution...that's a mistake and I don't think people will miss that point. Remember once you start changing the constitution for little stuff like defining marriage...well you're opening the door to more changes to it for any and all sorts of things...that's a huge step that should not at all be played down. So I think it's fine Pat if you don't support gay marriage...it's your right to feel that way but what I would ask you is...please don't support screwing around with our Constitution...that's a Rove mistake I just don't want to live with...leave it to the states and go ahead and mount your protest to the state of Texas not to allow same sex couples to marry...but leave the Constitution out of it. These are the kind of big mistakes I think Bushco, with Rove as the driving force, are making.
Hmnnn a conservative host that likes Kerry. Can you give me an example of what he likes about Kerry?
Well, he likes pretty much everything about Kerry. He says he knows him personally and if there was ever a guy that was very "presidential" it's Kerry. The only thing he doesn't like about him is he's a Democrat. I can tell you from living here in Massachusetts, I too like Kerry, and he's not Ted Jr. or anything like Clinton. I don't think Rove will find much on him...that's why they keep distorting stuff like the special interest thing, Vietnam stuff, etc...because I don't believe there's anything really damaging in his closet. There will be stuff that gets floated I'm sure...for a long time there's been this dumb story that Kerry pretends to be Irish which is actually not true but I bet we see stuff like that show up.
What’s his name and his show streamed on the internet? Have you heard of the Replay Radio?
The guys name is Jay Severin he's on 96.9 WTKK in Boston from 3pm-7pm eastern time. Now, please understand there's a lot about this guy I don't like. He's got some real nasty ideas floating around in his head on stuff like gay marriage, that we should nuke Iraq, he uses a lot of "hate words" in the worst possible way...like refering to people as "wetbacks" etc...and he hates people like Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton with a passion. This is where he turns himself into a joke...but he also produces some very clearly thought out well structured arguments that those on the right...talk show guys or the people they throw on tv...don't really seem capable of. So I think the show is a good way to get inside the mind of a guy like Rove. This guy was a political consultant that worked for people like Pat Buchanon before he got on the radio. So check him out if you can and let me know what you think.
