But until then, to me, why Kerry commands more confidence when it comes to national security is because when it was his time to stand up for his generation's war, he did not turn tail and hide like Bush/Cheney did. He did not let some one else take his place. Kerry did not say be believed in something and when asked to stand for it, ask someone else to bleed for him. But what is especially galling is how Bush supporters ignore this now that the shoe is on the other foot. I recall the attacks Clinton took in 92 and 96 for his draft avoidance.

On top of this, I get so sick and tired of people bitching about Kerry and his post-war behavior because if there is one group of people who have the right to bitch about war, it is those who have truly seen war.

Secondly, in the occupation I am in and from the past military experience, people KNOW who those people are who are would not send others to do what they are not willing to do themselves. Kerry has shown he has this virtue, Bush and Cheney have not.

As for compassion....Bush is full of false compassion. Look at what he did to McCain in South Carolina in the 2000 campaign; look at how he joked about WMD's at a recent function (hm, bit of hypocrisy here isn't there?); look at how he wants to cut overtime pay from workers; look at how his running mates former company fed our troops rotting meat; it goes on and on...

So until this bunch in the White House shows some compassion themselves, I say screw them...
