Would it have been Roemer and Lehman? I saw them on Charlie Rose last week and was very surprised (pleasantly) at some of the comments.
Lehman, the Repub, was upset with Frist, the Senate Majority Leader, for prematurely talking about perjury charges against Clarke and Roemer talked of changes that need to be done and that their job wasn't to debate the Iraq war.
Thompson though can put a gag on for all I'm concerned. He is our former IL Gov and was acting like a jerk with Clarke. His performance reminded me of the character in "O Brother" who is running for gov who was ran out on a rail at the end of the flick for attacking the Soggy Bottom Boys. (I'm not saying Thompson is a KKK man - just that, like in the movie, he attacks when the spectating crowd disapproves).
