Since we're on the topic (among other things) of '90's music and concert footage...

I pulled out my VHS tape of Midnight Oil's 1990 "Black Rain Falls" documentary tonight. It was one of the Oils defining moments: playing on the back of a flatbed truck at the lunch hour in Manhattan in front of Exxon World Headquarters in protest of the Exxon oil spill in Alaska.

Snarling traffic and attracting a huge crowd (Garrett said "I love it when the suits and ties clap") the Oils played a furious half dozen songs including an incredible version of "Sometimes" where Garrett, climbing up on a bank of speakers, slips and topples off onto the stage. Handed his microphone he clambers back up on the amp stack to finish the song.

There will probably never be a DVD of this concert but you can find occasional new or used VHS tapes. Here's a link if you're interested.

If you're weary of the political scene this might give you the shot of hope you're needing. An articulate, active, and brilliant band at the height of their powers.
