Greetings:
This article in the March 23, 2004 Sydney Morning Herald
reminded me of the investigative book FAST FOOD NATION:

If any of you (or your children) still eat at places like
McDonald's,
Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, or Wendy's --- you need to read
FAST FOOD NATION by Eric Schlosser:

schlosser.html
This is perhaps the most damaging book that has ever been
written, to those in the business of selling fat and empty calories.
When I was in high school, one of my friends became an
assistant
manager at McDonald's. He went to their corporate mind-control
center, which they call "Hamburger University." I got to read the
secret management training manuals, and their contents were
astounding. Corporate managenment controls everything about
their employees, including the way in which they think.
This was around the time of the infamous "milk shake"
incident,
when McDonald's was taken to court over their calling their shakes
"milk shakes," and this was because those things contain no milk.
My friend also showed me the cardboard boxes, in which the shake
contents arrive at the individual restaurants.
Stamped on the side were the words:
"Caution: Contains Liquid Plastic"
I was told that was required by the FDA, and that it has since
been
changed.
This incident occurred around the same time that I began to
question many things about the world around me. Reading the
McDonald's Management Training materials was eye-opening, to
say the least.
"Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser
Houghton-Mifflin Company
356 pages, published 2001
ISBN # 0-965-18838-8
Incidentally, Eric Schlosser's follow-up to Fast Food Nation,
was a
book entitled "Reefer Madness: Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the
American Black Market," which was published in 2003. I would
recommend BOTH books, both of which I have personally read.
"Reefer Madness" by Eric Schlosser
Houghton-Mifflin Company
310 pages, published 2003

The most egregious food substance that has ever been
foisted upon America is ASPARTAME --- which slowly poisons its'
users when the aspartic acid breaks down into formaldehyde and
other toxins. In fact, of all the complaints the FDA receives
concerning food additives, 75% of the total concern ASPARTAME.
Here is a great site on the many dangers of ASPARTAME:
