If Dick was going to do a macho trip with a gun, I think he could rustle up something a little tougher than this to pose with, such as anything in the U.S. military arsenal. This looks like he's admiring a handsome collector's item, a clearly obsolete rifle or more likely a reproduction.

Now I think Cheney is a creep but his liking collectable and other civilian guns is not one of the reasons for that. I like and use sporting guns myself but, even though I'm a middle- aged white male, it's not to demonstrate my manliness.
