Hey Kyle,

Thanks to the good man Peter, we have learned of your recent gig at the hell house. I hope you get well and escape soon. Life here on the DBIS board has had a few upgrades of late. We are all looking forward to the DVD. The constant ranting from the left and the right, on Bush, Kerry and the war has not changed at all. You have been one voice that has been truly missed. Return soon! Here's a list of tunes I recently posted on the messagebaord:

1.) Iron & Wine - "Our Endless Number Days" Sam Beam makes a huge leap forward with this new collection of beautiful, simple folk songs. This one’s so much clearer and heartfelt then his first. I just saw him in concert a couple of weeks ago, he’s so real, such a rare thing these days.

2.) Caetano Veloso – "A Foreign Sound" My only complaint is the liner notes. After reading a few articles and reviews on this record, I love it even more now that I know a little bit about why he recorded these particular songs written by American songwriters.

3.) Patty Griffin – "Impossible Dream" This album is so damn depressing, yet so damn beautiful. Patty’s back! And the world is better for it. There are elements of production and musical instrumentation on this album that are completely flawless. Not her strongest songwriting, but then again, well, I won’t go there. My only complaint, not really a complaint, and I thought I’d never ever say this, but the Dixie Chicks cover version of "Let Him Fly" is far superior to Patty’s version on this record.

4.) Sarah Harmer – " All Of Our Names" Sarah needs to make more records. Like David Baerwald, she’s far too talented to not get heard more often.

5.) Yeah Yeah Yeahs – "Maps" I bought this CD single because of the video. The best video since Johnny Cash’s "Hurt", and the song is just as good as the video. I promise I’ll buy the full length soon!

6.) Sondre Lerche – "Two Way Monologue" Norway’s answer to Rufus Wainwright. Great pop songs performed with so much flare and so much care for the great American songwriter tradition. Just like Rufus, he’s one to watch great things yet to become.

7.) Jem – "Finally Woken" How come this record hasn’t sold millions already? Dido and Madonna’s last record can’t hold a candle to this Electro-pop jem.

8.) Cesaria Evora – "Club Sodade" Various DJ’s re-mix this Cape Verde legend’s past catalog. The cocktail party album of the year.

9.) Dan Reeder – "Dan Reeder" I still haven't tired this home recording, done by an american artist, living in Germany. Great story, great album. John Prine did right by giving the world this little recording.

10.) Maroon 5 – "Songs About Jane" Play that funky music white boyz. This record is for all you white boys who think you have rhythm. I guess that’s why I bought it. I wonder though, Will these guys last? Come years end, will I try to trade this in at the local used CD shop, along with the rest of you? For now, I’ll just sit back and wiggle my hips to this mindless record.

If interested, I'll gladly burn some CDR's for you. Here’s my email: [email protected]

Cheers, Kevin(from AZ)
