I just wanted to point out, for a number of reasons, that there is actually a boatload of info right on the internet that is helpful with understanding terrorism and what our government has been doing. Here's the great thing too...for you guys on the right that believe in the "liberal media conspiracy"...a lot of the info can be found on our own government's websites. So, you don't have to get it out of the NY Times or from ABC or CBS. It takes in some cases a little digging but it's very interesting if you really want to try to understand the issues.
A minor amount of looking around for example would reveal to you the following:
We knew for years that Saddam sponsored terrorism against Israel.
We don't have and never had anything that shows he had any kind of meaningful relationship with Al Qaeda or Osama.
We've had loads of info on Iran for years and their government has worked long and hard with terrorists and terrorist organizations in a number of ways. It was Iran that worked hard to get terrorists to use the drug trade. Iran has for years worked with terrorists to get them to devise attacks on American soil. Iran has worked to try to get the many terrorist organizations to work together to maximize their efforts.
Now to me, I start thinking when I read this stuff and end up with questions...
Why when Bushco wanted so badly to show how evil Iraq was and that they may have had terrorist ties did they stay so far away from the most obvious and well known info about Saddam's terrorist relationship? The info is not classified it's on the net, it's been in books, in the newspaper, on tv...the one and only area where we have hard and well known info on Saddam working with terrorists is his providing money to the Palestinians for efforts against Israel. So, why does Bushco ignore that? We can't tie Saddam to Al Qaeda or 9/11 because there is nothing out there linking them. We can tie Saddam to terrorism against Israel. Why don't they? Why didn't they use this?
Why when we've had, for years, a list of nations and governments that we have hard info on...stuff we could use to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that these people were and are a danger to us and the world...like for example Iran and Syria...why do we ignore this info and instead attack Iraq? Iraq a nation that we had nothing on to show Saddam wanted to attack America, that had been under sanctions for years, whose military was in shambles, whose government was falling apart, and appeared to be a nation on the brink of collapse...why do we choose them to go after following our unfinished business in Afghanistan?
Why knowing all about the terrorist drug network and the fact they've been using our borders like a revolving door, that there were many different cells at work in our country, Canada, and Mexico, didn't the war on terror start right here in North America? Wouldn't securing those borders be the first place to start?
It appears, when you begin reading and digging, in terms of terrorism Iran has been a rather giant driving force behind the movement. They really have wanted to do us great harm. Now I think the War on Terror, as it is, is a bad idea but if Bush had wanted to sell to the world and American public a nation that really was a danger...and one they had the goods on...Iran would have been an easy sell. Sort of...I mean at least from an evidence standpoint. I'm not saying we should attack Iran but I think at least Bushco could have proved their point there. I could probably guess why we have not attacked Iran, or Syria, or Pakistan, or Uzbekistan, or Saudi Arabia...all places we have loads of info on in terms of terrorist ties and support systems in place in these countries.
The big thing is though, why did they choose Iraq?
We can prove no ties to Al Qaeda or 9/11.
We can find no WMD's.
There are many nations we know were and are a far greater danger to us.
Iraq did not have the capability to strike us on our soil.
It would be sort of easy to tie Iran into funding and supporting 9/11...probably Syria too for that matter.
So, why Iraq?
Is it because they were an easy target?
They were weak from a military standpoint?
They sit on a large oil supply?
Saddam was an easy sell as a boogieman because Americans knew who he was?
Neocon units like the PNAC had planned for years before 9/11 a way for us to invade Iraq?
Iraq is the only country in the region you could name, that Joe Sixpack could tell you who the evil bastard in charge was...who is in charge of Syria, Iran, Uzbekistan? Anyone?
The closer you look the bigger the lie gets...and you don't need the media to tell you...our own government websites tell the tale.
One thing I have certainly learned from this...and it does really sort of bother me...it seems a lot of the politicians we've elected to congress and the senate, don't have a clue either...it's like this is all a long and deadly learning experience for all of us.
I just hope that they are reading through all the info that's out there...our War on Drugs ties into our War on Terror...and they are learning what's what. I hope they start asking better questions and stop with partisan bullshit. If I can learn what I have sitting at my pc, reading a few books, and making a trip to the library, in pretty much a matter of months...I sure as hell hope these politicans we've elected can pick up the trail.
I'm sorry for those of you that are Repbulicans because these guys in office stink pretty bad right now and they need a bath. Lining up with Bushco right now on this War on Terror seems to be lining up with one giant whopper of a lie. A quick look at simple facts indicates we have a serious issue.
I happen to agree with John Dean on this...it's worse than Watergate and Bush is standing in the heart of impeachment country. I almost feel it's only a matter of time before the house of cards starts to fall.
That's not a gloat either...I think it's very, very sad. Anytime an American president gets this deep...and I'm not sure it's ever been this bad...it's a sad day for anyone that loves their country. Nixon looks like a kid getting caught stealing penny candy compared to our current president. I've begun to wonder if Bush even knows or realizes what his surrounding cast have done to him.
