OK ... we get it! Some American soldiers abused --- not tortured, abused --- Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghraib. Those American soldiers are being punished. One has already been sentenced to a year in jail and is receiving a bad conduct discharge. Other trials are pending. The system is working. What is the purpose of continuously hammering this story day after day after day?
Let's repeat that in case y'all didn't catch it...
"One year in Jail and a bad conduct discharge."
The following crimes have been noted as being committed in these incidents:
Numerous counts of rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual assault, sexual battery, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, harrassment, neglect and yes...torture (it's a legal term that the buffoon that wrote the above quote is obviously unfamiliar with.)
Most folks that end up with that list of charges end up doing very hard time.
So did George or Donald specifically order these sick fucks to anally rape someone with a flashlight? Nope. Probably not. (although it does bring back memories of all that skull and bones stuff we talked about earlier this year, eh?) So, if that's the case, why is everyone acting so defensive? Bad things happen during wars. That's why I didn't want a war in the first place. But we went and had the war and the occupation and now look. We'll be paying restitution to people who may or may not have had anything to do with "INSURGENCY" for years on end because of the dehumanizing hate campaign that is the homefront psy-ops approach to fighting. They're not people...they're not even sand-niggers or towelheads (who are protected by international law and common human decency despite the fact that they're brown.) They're terrorists...right? They look like terrorists...they threaten our way of life...so we can exterminate them...right?
Put your child on a concrete floor, piled under six other children, vinyl bags over their heads, grinning soldiers standing by and tell me one year in jail is enough.
Have your kid tortured by low grade DC electrocution and tell me that the government is doing enough.
The average reaction of a parent who finds out their kid has been sexually abused or exploited is that they expect the perp to be executed. Generally, by the time court comes around, they've cooled off and they have settled with the notion that the perp will do time and have the same thing happen to them. But nothing ever dulls the pain.
We can talk ourselves into justifying anything. We squander our resources, we exploit our neighbors and now we saunter into another country, justified or not, make horrible mistakes and have the gall to say that our country is doing it's job. We have lost our sense of shame. We punish our own citizens to the highest degree for the same crimes yet in our Holy War On Islam, the same repugnant behavior is excused and expected to be swept under the carpet to make way for the glory of war. I'm sorry if daily news coverage of these incidents bothers Orin Hatch or a few right wing journalists. It nauseates me. And perhaps a bit of flagellation with this will do our American Soul some good. We may not be wrong about everything, but if we can praise our achievements with monuments, then we should be strong enough to face the world in our shameful times. The good ones I see from day to day can face the world with their downfalls. So should we. The animals I work with always blame the world for their troubles...point fingers...blame...to purge themselves of one of the purest of human emotions...shame.
So, hopefully, the investigations will be detailed and complete. Hopefully the families of these folks will find forgiveness. And hopefully, we as a nation will give the world what is due and recognize the shame that is deserved.
